The Department of Tourism on its Administrative Order No. 2022-001 issued reminders for hotels and other accommodation establishments (AEs) on the relaxed guidelines on room occupancy in areas under Alert Level 1, 2, and 3. It has been two years now since the declaration of community lockdown last March 19, 2020 and the hotel industry welcome this development as a very good news especially in tourism reliant places such as Palawan in the Philippines. Palawan which is under Level 1 and dubbed as the worlds best island has a vibrant hotel industry awaiting for the comeback of the tourism. It is awaiting influx of guests this summer season both domestic and international.

The order comes after reports and complaints from guests who were unable to share rooms because they came from different households. Imagine the supposed embarrassment when a couple have to stay on two different rooms. This could very well apply to those times when COVID-19 was on its run and we hope it would not happen again.

It further states that hotels are now allowed full room occupancy subject to minimum public health standards. Further convenience is allowed as daily housekeeping, room service, and food delivery for the comfort and benefit of hotel guests.

Summer time is already here and this could very well be the reason for guests and tourists to bask in the sun without the awkward experiences brought about by unnecessary rules. The DOT order also impose penalties and fines for violators should they make any false, deceptive, or misleading claims for the purpose of soliciting business from guests and clients.
