Busuanga, Palawan – The skies over Busuanga are once again bustling with the hum of aircraft engines as Francisco B. Reyes Airport resumes its normal operations today. After a nail-biting few days, the PAL aircraft that had an impromptu adventure off the runway on Sunday has finally been safely moved and is now lounging comfortably at Bay 01.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) gave the green light for normal operations at exactly 8:24 AM today, much to the delight of stranded passengers and concerned locals alike. The runway is back to doing what it does best – welcoming planes and happy tourists to the picturesque island.
The Wet and Wild Adventure of Flight PR2680
It was a Sunday like no other for PAL’s flight PR2680, which flew in from Mactan amidst heavy rain. The aircraft, upon touching down, decided to take an unplanned detour thanks to a phenomenon known as hydroplaning. For those not in the know, hydroplaning is when the aircraft’s tires lose contact with the runway due to a thin layer of water, resulting in a sudden and rather dramatic loss of control.
Luckily, no one was hurt, but the incident did cause quite a stir. The aircraft was finally moved at the witching hour of 2:39 AM, making way for normalcy to return to the beloved Busuanga airport.
Flights Back on Track
The runway hiccup affected several flights, causing delays and disruptions. PAL’s flights GAP2678/2679 (Clark-Busuanga-Clark) and GAP2965/2966 (Manila-Busuanga-Manila) were left hanging in the balance, while Cebgo’s flights SRQ6051 (Manila-Busuanga) and SRQ6066 (Mactan-Busuanga) had to rework their schedules.
