In an explosion of color, rhythm, and pure talent, the Tribu Malagnang from San Vicente danced their way to victory at the much-anticipated Saraotan sa Dalan 2024, held at the PGP Convention Center in Palawan on June 23, 2024. The triumphant performance earned them the grand prize of P1,000,000, making them the stars of this year’s Baragatan Festival.

A Dance Battle for the Ages
The competition was fierce as six municipalities showcased their unique traditions and cultures through intricate dance routines and stunning costumes. The street dancing competition began with a lively parade along Rizal Avenue, captivating spectators with vibrant displays and energetic performances.
The first judging area at Mendoza Park contributed 30% to the total score, where the participants impressed the judges with their opening salvos and handy props. The grand performance, which constituted the remaining 70% of the score, took place at the PGP Convention Center, sealing the fate of the competitors.

Victorious Tribes
San Vicente’s Tribu Malagnang emerged victorious, their performance a testament to their dedication and passion for their craft. The ecstatic team was awarded the grand prize by Gov. Victorino Dennis M. Socrates, Baragatan Executive Committee Chairman Ceasar Sammy Magbanua, and the Chairperson of the judges, Ms. Ma. Teodora ‘Dinggot’ Conde-Prieto.
Close on their heels, the Tribu Purungitan from Cuyo claimed the 1st Runner-Up spot, taking home P750,000, while the Tribu Narranon from Narra secured the 2nd Runner-Up position, earning P500,000. The other participating municipalities didn’t go home empty-handed either, as they each received a consolation prize of P200,000.

Special Awards and Honors
The competition also celebrated excellence in various categories with special awards. Magsaysay bagged both the Best in Musicality and Most Disciplined Group awards. Cuyo shone with the Best in Costume award, while Sofronio Española was recognized for Best in Concept. San Vicente further showcased their prowess by winning the Best in Set Design award. Each of these special accolades came with a P10,000 prize.

The final scores were meticulously calculated based on the following criteria: Performance (30%), Choreography (30%), Costume and Props (20%), and Music (20%). The esteemed panel of judges included experts in the fields of art and culture, such as Mr. Ralph Pulanco, Mr. Jojo Orcullo, Mr. Joseph Tutanes, Ms. Maileen Tutanes, Mr. Rudy Alduñar, Mr. Randy Carlos Guevarra, Ms. Jovenee Sagun, and Ms. Conde-Prieto.

This year’s Baragatan Festival, themed “Mayamang Sining at Kultura…Kakaibang mga Kaugalian at Tradisyon…Tagisan ng Lakas, Talino at Talento…Natatanging mga Produktong Palaweño,” celebrated Palawan’s rich heritage and diverse traditions.
