A Celebration of Culture and Tradition

The Baragatan Festival 2024 in Palawan promises an unforgettable cultural immersion, and at the heart of this vibrant celebration is the Indigenous People (IP) Tribal Village. The Provincial Government, under the guidance of Provincial Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Arnel P. Abrina, has created this unique showcase to honor and celebrate the province’s nine tribal communities. From June 7 to June 23, visitors can explore this living exhibit, located in the Capitol Compound, from 9 AM to 11 PM daily.
Step into the Tribal Village
A Glimpse into Tribal Life

The Tribal Village is designed to be a joyful and serene representation of Palawan’s tribal communities. The village features authentic huts and tribal houses, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of the Agutaynen, Batak, Cagayanen, Cuyunon, Palaw’an, Molbog, and three groups of Tagbanua (Calamianon, Sentral, and Tandulanen) peoples. This immersive setup allows visitors to experience the distinct architectural styles and living conditions of each tribe.
The Tribal Exhibit

The first aspect of the village is the Tribal Exhibit, where members of the communities don their native costumes and display a variety of traditional implements. Visitors can marvel at fishing tools, hunting gear, farming equipment, musical instruments, and household wares. The exhibit also delves into each tribe’s unique culture, faith, beliefs, and traditions, providing a comprehensive understanding of their way of life.
The Tribal Market

The second aspect is the Tribal Market, a vibrant marketplace where visitors can purchase an array of local products. From fresh root crops to intricate handicrafts, the market offers a treasure trove of items that reflect the skill and creativity of Palawan’s indigenous artisans. This is an excellent opportunity to support local communities and take home a piece of Palawan’s rich cultural heritage.
The Significance of the Tribal Village
The Tribal Village is more than just an exhibit; it’s an educational experience aimed at raising awareness among visitors, particularly the youth of Palawan. It highlights the significance of the indigenous communities in the province’s progress and development. By showcasing their arts, traditions, and cultural wealth, the festival encourages a deeper appreciation and pride in Palawan’s diverse heritage.
