Seven Palaweños pass the physicians board exam who are also Palawan provincial gov’t medical scholars

The road to reducing the ratio of doctor to patient in Palawan is getting a much needed bump as seven new doctors passed the Philippine physician licensure exams.

The seven new doctors will soon serve the hospitals for the province of Palawan in return for the scholarship and financial support they received from the provincial government of Palawan.

They can now add the title Doctor before their names. They are now Doctors and true Palaweños: Dra. Zwee Ann D. Bonite of Narra, Dr. Prosjames S. Pablico of San Vicente, Dra. Pillar Del Cielo R. Cabanlit, Dr. Jay L. Daligdig, Dra. Angeline Joy T. Manzano, Dra. Kathryn Jenn P. Red at Dra. Roezel Mari Z. Ocaña PUERTO PRINCESA CITY.

According to the Provincial Information Office (PIO) they belong to the 9th batch of medical scholars through the Programang Pang-Edukasyon para sa mga Palaweño (PPP) o Medical Scholarship Program by the Palawan Provincial Government.

As per Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates there are currently sixteen hospitals in the province with four which are functioning and the twelve still lacking medical personnel and equipment.

It was also announced that there are now fifty one (51) medical scholars of the Provincial Government who have successfully passed the physician licensure exams as a result of the scholarship and are now serving in the above hospitals.

We hope that this will further increase the ratio of doctor to patient in the province or at least have doctors stationed in every hospital in the province direly needed by people in the remote areas.

As indicated in the scholarship program, the new doctors will serve the province equivalent to the number of years that their tuitions have been paid by the taxpayers and as part of the agreement of the scholarship program.

It is a commendable program which was started by the Provincial Government and now continued by the current administration of Governor Socrates.

We can hope that this will truly address the health concerns of the province.
