Japan’s government in an effort to increase tourist arrivals is planning to waive tourist visa requirements from some countries. Also as part of a further easing of border controls enacted to stop the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) according to Fuji News Network reported on Monday.
FNN reported that they may allow individual traverers to visit Japan without any travel agency bookings or planned tours. The final say will be in the hands of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida which is expected to have a decision as early as this week.
It is known fact that before the pandemic, Japan did not require tourist visas for 68 countries and regions.
Already, Japan has raised the daily ceiling of inbound travelers to 50,000 from 20,000 and eliminated a requirement for pre-departure COVID tests. Before the easing, Japan had the most restrictive border measures among major economies.
And this could further be enhanced as the Japanese government may scrap a daily cap on arrivals by October, according to a report by the Nikkei newspaper.
Japan is doing its utmost to attract foreign visitors with the help of weaker yen which will surely boost tourist spending.
