The US Film 1521: The Battle of Mactan will be shot entirely in Palawan due mainly to nature views that seem like pre-colonial Philippines. The best island in the world is the perfect paradise to depict the Mactan battle in Cebu in the year 1521 with Ferdinand Magellan of the Spanish forces and Lapu-Lapu as the challenger.

Lapu-Lapu who was the chieftain of Mactan prevailed. It does not end very well for Magellan whose crew eventually claimed the title of circumnavigating the world. Lapu-Lapu represent the symbol of defiance against the invaders. We already know that story.

“We chose Palawan because there are so many parts of Palawan that still look like it’s in the 1500s. It’s untapped” said Fil-American Actor-director Michael Copon who produced the film together with Filipino producer Francis B. Lara Ho.

Shoot locations include Tagkawayan Beach on the West Coast which is perfect to simulate the year 1521 in Cebu. Definitely this is also a way to showcase and promote the West Coast of Puerto Princesa as a prime beach destination to the world.

Popular actresses Bea Alonzo and Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan will portray as sisters Diwata and Ahmani with Puerto Rican actor Hector David Jr. as Diwata’s love interest Enrique.

Although the story is around the battle of Mactan, it is not entirely about the epic clash but a love story between Diwata and Enrique. Lapu-Lapu will be played by Copon himself while American actor Danny Trejo will act the part of Magellan. This will be a sight to behold.

We are truly excited to seeing the different locations in Puerto Princesa and Palawan to be featured in the movie. Thousand of extras were also hired to participate in the making of the movie so expect to see your friends in the big screen and featured worldwide. Would be something to see familiar names in the end credits.

“1521” will be released on June 12, 2023 which is intended to coincide with the 125th celebration of Philippine Independence Day.
