Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has just issued an announcement that 10 million pieces of its new P1,000 bills or 2% of total polymer notes started its circulation and now made available to the public.

The polymer bills feature the Philippine eagle on the frontside, as well as the sampaguita which is totally different from the current P1,000 bill which feature Jose Abad Santos, Vicente Lim and Josefa Llanes Escoda being World War II heroes.

On the reverse side, Tubbataha Reef Natural Park, South Sea Pearl and T’nalak weave are featured.

The removal of the faces of the heroes drew some criticism as part of historical revisionism which is happening in the country by some sectors.

The BSP assured the public though that all bills and coins including the current P1,000 in circulation will not be demonetized until mid-2023 wherein it is estimated that 500 million pieces of the plastic notes will have been issued.

So expect in your hands very soon this new plastic polymer notes.
