Palawan, known for its breathtaking natural beauty and pristine beaches, has seen a significant surge in tourist arrivals in the first six months of 2023. According to partial data from the Department of Tourism, obtained through its TourLISTA App, the number of tourists visiting the province has reached an impressive 765,000, surpassing the figures from the same period last year.

The data reveals a remarkable growth in both domestic and foreign tourist numbers. Domestic tourists accounted for a majority of the arrivals, with 427,652 visitors flocking to Palawan from various parts of the Philippines. Foreign tourists, on the other hand, contributed 338,339 arrivals, showcasing the province’s allure to international travelers.
Compared to the same period in 2022, where Palawan received 325,011 tourist arrivals, the increase in 2023 represents a remarkable 135% growth. The surge in visitors showcases Palawan’s rising popularity as a top travel destination, both among locals and foreigners alike.

The breakdown of tourist arrivals by town highlights the appeal of different destinations within Palawan. Leading the list is the picturesque town of El Nido, which welcomed an impressive 294,065 tourists in the first half of 2023. With its stunning limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and hidden lagoons, El Nido continues to capture the hearts of travelers seeking paradise on Earth.

Following closely behind is Puerto Princesa, the capital city of Palawan, which saw 269,090 visitors during the same period. Puerto Princesa is renowned for its Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the vibrant biodiversity found within its boundaries.

Other notable towns contributing to Palawan’s thriving tourism industry include Coron, attracting 75,756 visitors, and San Vicente, which enticed 52,057 tourists. Linapacan, Brooke’s Point, Narra, Busuanga, Culion, and Taytay also played their part in drawing visitors to experience their unique attractions.

The remarkable increase in tourist arrivals during the first half of 2023 underscores the potential for continued growth in Palawan’s tourism sector. With its natural wonders, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality, the province has ample room to further increase its appeal to travelers.
